Agriculture

Agriculture is a strategic driver of Rwanda’s economic transformation, food security, employment and rural prosperity, employing approximately 69% of the national labour force, contributing 27% to GDP and generating about 34% of export revenues (NISR, 2025; MINECOFIN, 2026). In line with Vision 2050 and PSTA 5, Rwanda aims to transform agriculture into a productive, competitive, market-oriented and climate-resilient sector that generates higher incomes, creates jobs, attracts investment and strengthens participation in high-value markets. Achieving this ambition requires addressing persistent constraints, including land scarcity, low productivity, post-harvest losses, climate shocks, limited agricultural finance and weak market linkages.

CCOAIB offers a strategic, farmer-centred platform for translating these national priorities into results at the community level. With over 70% of its member organizations engaged in agriculture, CCOAIB leverages its extensive grassroots networks to strengthen farmers’ organizations, improve access to finance, quality inputs, technologies and extension services, promote climate-smart production and post-harvest management, and connect smallholder farmers to markets and value-addition opportunities. Through evidence-based advocacy, capacity development and multi-stakeholder partnerships, CCOAIB also helps bridge the gap between agricultural policies and implementation, ensuring that farmers’ priorities inform sector decisions.

CCOAIB’s value proposition is its ability to connect policy, institutions and smallholder farmers to deliver scalable, inclusive and sustainable agricultural transformation. By mobilizing its member organizations and fostering collaboration with public institutions, development partners and private-sector actors, CCOAIB contributes to higher agricultural productivity, reduced post-harvest losses, stronger farmer incomes, increased rural employment and improved climate resilience advancing PSTA 5 priorities and Rwanda’s Vision 2050 ambition for a prosperous, competitive and high-income economy.
